I didn't quite reach my reading goal of 50 books in 2012, but still got some hardcore reading in with the help of my reading idol over at A Belle's Tales. I've listed the books below, followed by a section of my thoughts.
Hunger Pains: Worst. Satire. Ever. Just don't even try to go there.
A Game of Thrones: I'm a HUGE fangirl of the HBO series, and was pleasantly pleased at how closely it was scripted from the original text, even if that text was extremely long and slightly dense in places. I still think it was totally a worthwhile read (for about 5 months. I think I found the downfall in my 2012 Reading Challenge.)
Shatter Me: Chalked full of creativity in both writing style and plot, I enjoyed this book but think I'll enjoy Book 2 even more! (It's on my 2013 TBR.)
The Clockwork Series: Loved this intriguing prequel to the Mortal Instruments Series (perhaps even a bit more than the MI series). Can't wait to buddy-read Book 3, Clockwork Princess, in April with Mama M!! I loved the development of Runes in the MI series, but my favorite relationship was between a Warlock and an Angel. <3
Hold Me Closer, Necromancer: This book reminded me of an episode of Supernatural, with humor, creepiness, and music referenced chapter titles. TBR-ing Book 2 this year!
Wither and Fever: DeStefano is a writing Goddess. Beautiful, heartwrenching story. I finished the 3rd and final book, Sever, this year and will gush about it in a later post.
The Iron Fey Series: LOVED this series filled with fairy kingdoms and talking Cheshire cats. (I WILL name a future animal Grimalkin.) Reminiscent of a bedtime story, with adventure and magic.
Insurgent: Book 2 of the Divergent series. I felt the big story secret was spilled a bit early on, but enjoyed learning about the different factions, in particular Amity. Tris disappointed me a bit, but I'm hoping for a badass recovery in the third book, out this October!! (Eeee!)
Pandemonium: I think I have a lady-crush on Lauren Oliver, even if Delirium will forever be my soulbook. I loved the way Pandemonium was written, bouncing back and forth through time, although there was an audible groan when the love triangle emerged. But the writing...holy smokes, just read it for the writing. It sticks with you like oatmeal--warm, gooey feeling included. I finished Requiem two weeks ago, so look for that post soon.
The Hollowland Series: Creepy good. I really need a Book 3 please!!
